Yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, gusty surface wind in Odisha districts during next 5 days

Bhubaneswar: With a trough from north Odisha to east Vidarbha and a cyclonic circulation over north Odisha and neighbourhood becoming less marked, thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha during the next five days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted today.

IMD issued the Yellow Warning in Odisha for the next five days and the Orange Warning only for March 19.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD centre mentioned, “Maximum temperatures observed appreciable fall at one or two places over the districts of North Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were appreciably above normal at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, above normal at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha, at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Temperature forecast: No large change in the Maximum (day) temperature during next three days and a gradual fall by 3°C to 5°C at many places over the districts of Odisha in the subsequent four days and no large change in the Minimum (night) temperature during next four days and thereafter gradual fall by 2°C to 3°C at many places over the districts of Odisha.

The highest maximum temperature of 39.5°C was recorded at Boudh. The lowest minimum temperature of 19.3°C was recorded at Malkangiri in the plains of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha.

Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH very is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Koraput and Rayagada.

For Sunday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 17.03.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 18.03.2024)

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of South Odisha, North Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the rest districts Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack, Balasore and Bhadrak.
