1 dead, 4 others critically injured after two-wheelers collide head-on in Odisha’s Puri

Astaranga: In a fatal road mishap that took place today, a youth was killed on the spot and four others sustained grievous injuries as the two-wheelers on which they were travelling had a head-on collision near Ukulei Chhak on Astaranga-Kakatpur main road in Puri district.

Identities of the deceased youth and the injured persons including two girls have not been ascertained yet, a senior police official said.

According to an eyewitness, two bike-borne youths were on their way from Kakatpur to elsewhere in the district when they hit a scooter from the front. A man and his two daughters were travelling on the ill-fated two-wheeler. The sound of the bang was loud enough as the youths were coming speedily.

As an ambulance vehicle did not reach on time, despite being informed, some locals rescued the four injured in critical condition and later sent them to a nearby health facility in Astaranga for treatment in an auto-rickshaw. Conditions of the injured are not out of danger, a doctor treating them said.

On being informed by the locals, Astaranga police reached the accident site and seized the body, and sent it to hospital for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe into the road mishap.
