Of the 129 Maoist supporters surrendered to the Malkangiri police today, 18 were Maoist helpers, 35 women and 6 village committee members. The villagers surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.

“They will be provided financial assistance in line with the rehabilitation policy of the state government,” Mohapatra said.

It may be mentioned here that at least 270 Maoist supporters of Silakota under Podia police limits and Gumukaguda and Entaguda villages under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district have surrendered to the police in the last one month.

On the other hand, members of around 15 families from Jhakadapada vallage in the cut-off area have left their homes fearing threat to their lives from Red rebels.

Meanwhile, the panic-stricken villagers have taken refuge in Khairput as they were getting repeated threats from the members of the outlawed group.
