70 houses gutted in major fire

Kendrapara, Feb 9:

Over a dozen villagers suffered burn injuries and at least 70 thatched houses were burnt down in a major fire that swept through Gadaramito village under Mahakalpada police station on Saturday, police said.

Reports said the fire that broke out in a house Saturday morning spread to neighbouring houses which had thatched roofs, ,sub-inspector, Mahakalapada police station Padarabinda Tripathy said.

The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The victims claimed to have lost properties worth around Rs one crore.

The blaze was tamed after an hour long effort by firetenders which were rushed to the spot from Kendrapara.
