8-year-old girl raped by uncle at forest in Odisha’s Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: Amid uproar in Odisha over the Nilagiri rape case, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle at Bachaka village under Biswanathpur police limits of Odisha’s Kalahandi district today.

Police have detained the accused for questioning after registering a case into the incident.

As per a complaint lodged by the mother of the victim with police, Sanyasi Bibhara, the minor girl’s uncle, took her to a nearby forest on the pretext of giving her berries and raped her.

The girl narrated the ordeal in front of her mother after returning home following which the latter filed a police complaint. The girl was sent for medical examination, sources said.

“A case has been registered and the accused is being interrogated. He is yet to reveal anything. The medical examination report of the girl is awaited,” said Gopinath Mani Patra, Additional SP, Kalahandi.
