9-yr-old Odisha girl dies in road mishap on her birthday

Nuapada: In a highly tragic incident, a 9-year-old girl died in a road accident on her birthday at Boden Chhak in Odisha’s Nuapada district today.

According to reports, the girl, identified as Vaishnavi, was returning home on a scooter with her mother Rita Khamparia on NH-353 for birthday celebration when a truck hit the two-wheeler.

The girl fell off the scooter following which the truck ran over her head killing her on the spot. On being informed, police reached the spot and initiated investigation.

A pall of gloom descended on the area after the incident while the inconsolable parents of the girl were seen sitting near the body on the road.

The truck has been seized and its driver was detained by police. Tension ran high at the spot following the mishap as irate locals demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.
