Pajero politics: Futile to expect morality from BJD, says Odisha BJP

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22:

On a day when senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (Lulu) levelled a fresh set of allegations against Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS &CW) Minister Sanjay Das Burma, BJP also joined the bandwagon and said that it is pointless to expect morality from ruling Biju Janata Dal.

“Many luminaries have resigned in the past over issues concerning morality. Lal Bahadur Shashtri resigned even though the railway accident was not his fault, professor Dalton resigned because the budget had been leaked, Nabakrushna Choudhary had also resigned. They have set high moral standards. We can’t even expect this from BJD,” said senior BJP leader Pratap Sarangi reacting to questions on resignation of Das Burma on moral grounds.

Taking matters further, Odisha PCC President Prasad Harichandan claimed that BJD is neck-deep in corruption.

“This party is neck-deep in corruption from top to bottom including the Chief Minister himself. Who is he going to act against? A deal was struck between BJP and BJD and the CBI investigation was stopped after it reached his gates,” accused Prasad Harichandan.

BJD, on the other hand, reminded both BJP and Congress of their own history.

“How they followed the rules and how they maintained high moral standards during their tenure in office have been well documented by the media. They just need to look back into their own past before levelling allegations,” said Pratap Deb.

“Our Chief Minister has maintained absolute transparency in his past 16 years of rule. There have been no underhand dealings like others. Hence, the allegations they are levelling are baseless,” he added.
