Bhubaneswar: The Union Finance Department today released Rs 18658 lakh for Urban Local Bodies of Odisha. The amount has been sanctioned as the first instalment of the basic grant for Urban Local Bodies for the year 2019-20.
This has been done as per the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission, official sources said.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had in December, last year written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the latter to release basic grants for ULBs in Odisha.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan thanked the PM and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for release of the amount. “The grant will be helpful in executing development works and basic service delivery being executed by local urban self governing bodies in Odisha,” he said.
