Another farmer ends life due to crop loss in Odisha

Bhadrak: While leaders were busy in grabbing attention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sending messages on his birthday in the state capital, a debt-ridden farmer took extreme step to end his life due to crop loss in Basudevpur area here today.

The victim was identified as Soumendra Mohanty of Ramrahimpur village under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district.

He allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in the paddy field. He was rushed to Basudevpur community hospital where he was declared dead.

According to reports, the young farmer had taken total Rs 1.10 lakh as crop loan.

Despite farmers’ suicide is being reported repeatedly in the state, the government has failed to address the issue.

Earlier, several farmers have committed suicide in Odisha due to crop loss and loan burden.

With such incident, another case was added to the list of farmers’ suicide in India.
