Basant Panda elected Odisha BJP president

Basant Kumar Panda was today elected as the Odisha unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) uncontested.

The 54-year-old legislator from Nuapada replaced Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo as the next head of the state unit of the party.

A notification regarding filing of nomination for the post of the state BJP president was issued yesterday. The filing of nomination was held between 9.30 am and 10.30 am. However, no contestant came forward to file nomination papers other than Basant Panda.

BJP Legislature Party leader filed three sets of papers at the party headquarters here with 10 proposers.

The formal announcement was done here at a press conference.

Notably, the newly-elected will hold the post for a period of three years.

“Basant Panda was unanimously elected as the next state unit president of BJP. There were no dissenting voices within the party,” senior party leader Suresh Pujari said.
