Atlest, 50 cartons of sub standard medicines, mostly ointments and injections, belonging to Vivek Pharmachem (India) Limited, a Jammu and Kashmir based company were found dumped in the canal, yesterday.
After the locals complained, the office of the Khurda Chief District Medical Office took action and seized the medicines worth more than 4 lakhs from the water body and started investigations for the violations.
“We have filed a complaint against the pharma company after more than 50 cartons of medicine of the private company were found dumped in the Rathipur canal,” said Khurda Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Sarada Prasanna Mishra, adding, “the seized medicines do not belong to Khurda batch”.
Mishra said that the medicines were of substandard quality and should have been destroyed instead of being dumped in the canal, a clear violation of pollution control norms.
The company had been blacklisted for three years earlier, according to reports.
