There is good news for passport seekers. Regional Passport Office (RPO), Bhubaneswar has set a target to issue one lakh passports in the current year, Muktesh K Pardeshi, chief passport officer of India, revealed here on Friday.

One crore passports will be issued in the country during the same period, he said.

“More than 78,000 passports were issued last year compared to 73,000 passports in 2012, accounting for a 15% growth in one year. 53,000 passports were issued in 2011 and 42,000 in 2007,,” Pardeshi said at a press conference here.

He also informed that the Bhubaneswar passport office has already organized six passport melas in the state benefiting 2,500 applicants.

“We have initiated talks with the police authorities for the implementation of District Police Headquarter Model, which will help the beneficiaries to avail passports easily,” said an official of the office.
