Class X girl raped in Delang, accused arrested

Even as the public anger over the murder of Tikiri lady teacher Itishree Pradhan is yet to subside, in yet another shocking incident, a Class X girl was allegedly raped at Mohanpur village near Delang in Puri district on Friday.

Police has arrested the accused Akshya Parida (33), a resident of a nearby village.

The 15-year old girl who was on her way to a private tutorial in the Delang market area on a bicycle, was gagged and abducted by the accused Akshya Parida and taken to an isolated place where she was raped, police said.

Sources said Parida even attempted to strangulate her but she managed to escape.

The girl who ran to her coaching centre narrated the ghastly incident to teacher and friends and later lodged a complaint at the Delang police station.

The girl who was initially taken to the Delang PHC for medical examination was later shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital after her condition deteriorated. She is now undergoing treatment there.

Irate villagers Friday had also blocked roads by setting tyres on fire.

Tension prevailed in the area as police continued with its investigations.
