Bhubaneswar, Mar 4:

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today formed a committee to look into the problems of the retrenched employees who had worked under the Centrally-sponsored Post Literacy Programme (PLP) between 1995 and 2005.

The chief minister directed the committee to submit a report on the problems of these retrenched employees with suggestions for their possible rehabilitation within 15 days.

The three-member committee will have the Development Commissioner as the chairman while the secretary, School and Mass Education and special secretary, Finance, will be the two other members.

It may be mentioned that the state government in 2005 had retrenched the PLP employees who were employed between 1995 and 2005.

Since then, these retrenched employees have been demanding their re-employment in posts similar to their earlier jobs.

Recently, a delegation of the Retrenched PLP Employees’ Association led by its president Jayakrushna Sethi, vice president Radheshyam Bhoi had met the chief minister at the State Secretariat here to apprise him of their problems and demands.

At present, there are over 10,000 retrenched PLP employees in the state.
