In a bid to curb the spurt in cyber crimes in the state, the Odisha government is planning to set up cyber police stations in every district across the state, chief secretary GC Pati said here today on the sidelines of the opening day of two-day workshop on ‘Cyber Crime Awareness’ at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA).

“The state government would arrange more workshops and programmes to enhance skill of the police personnel who want to specialise in the cyber related investigation assignments,” Pati said.

In his inaugural address, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik said that the state needs more cyber police stations to tackle the increasing trend of cyber crimes in the state.

“Like energy police stations, we also need cyber police stations in the state in view of the increasing cyber crimes in the state,” the DGP said.

“At present, Odisha’s only cyber police station functions under the Crime Branch in Cuttack. As there has been a long-standing demand for setting up of cyber crime police station in Bhubaneswar, a cyber police station would be established here very soon to deal with cyber-related offences. We will finalise the site for the police station within a week,” he added.
