The centre would be a place where distressed women would receive support, empathy and an assurance that they are not alone in their struggles,  commissionerate police said today.

The WSCs would be opened at DCP offices in the Twin City on September 3, informed Commissioner Dr R P Sharma.

“After the introduction of the Pink Auto service, this will be next major initiative of the commissionerate police to ensure the safety and security of women, besides providing them with better facilities,” Dr Sharma added.

Trained counsellors of an NGO will head the WSCs. Women will be provided with practical learning about physical, domestic violence, psychological harassment as well as counselling that strengthens their self-esteem and confidence, he said, adding the counsellors would further coordinate with and help the survivors get medical and legal support.

Police said the task of WSCs would be different from Mahila and Sishu desks in police stations, which are manned by police officers, Sharma said.
