Devotee falls into well at Puri Srimandir

Puri: A devotee reportedly fell into a well on the premises of the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Dhruv Chakravarthy (65) of Shrirampur area in West Bengal. He sustained minor injuries after falling into the well.

According to reports, the elderly man accompanied by his wife had visited Puri yesterday. The couple went into the Jagannath Temple on Thursday evening for darshan of deities. At around 7.40 PM, Dhruv’s wife visited the Ishaneswari Temple where she lost her balance after being stumbled upon a well due to darkness. However, Dhruv fell into the well while approaching his wife to save her life from falling into the well. After her wife screamed, other devotees and servitors reached the spot and informed the fire services centre.

On receiving information, the fire services personnel and Singhadwar police station IIC Swetapadma Dash reached the temple and rescued the victim from the well. They rushed him in an ambulance to Puri District Headquarters Hospital. He was discharged after treatment.

Reports said, swimming saved the victim’s life as he can manage to survive in the water for around 20 minutes till the fire services personnel reached the place for rescue.
