Angul: A seemingly innocuous incident snowballed into a political clash after a BJD worker was attacked with a sword by a BJP leader and his supporters in Odisha’s Angul district on Thursday. The incident took place at Handiguda village within Chhendipada police limits.

The victim Govind Pradhan, who belonged to the same village, was first rushed to Chhendipada hospital in a critical state and then shifted to the district headquarters hospital after his condition deteriorated.

The accused were identified as Dayanidhi Sahu, a BJP leader along with his associates Dusasan Behera, Sunil Pradhan and Trailakya Pradhan.

As per reports, one Shatrughan Gocchayat was sleeping in the village clubhouse. When Dusasan found out, he came and questioned Shatrughan leading to a heated argument between the duo. Dusasan even started abusing and physically assaulting Shatrughan.

On seeing the situation escalate, Govind intervened and tried to assuage the situation but the conflict got uglier and Dusasan started arguing with him as well.

While both went back to their respective homes after the verbal duel, Dusasan along with the three supporters came to Govind’s house a while later and started attacking him with sword and knife.

As Govind collapsed with severe injuries, all accused fled the spot. The victim’s family rushed him to the hospital and later filed a complaint with Chhendipada police regarding the incident. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, official sources informed.
