Elephant tramples woman to death in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Baripada: An elephant reportedly trampled a woman to death at Gosanipala in Bangriposi area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.

The deceased has been identified as Snehalata Sethi. According to reports, the woman had gone to a nearby river bank for attending nature’s call this morning. Unfortunately, a herd of elephants was roaming in the area at that time and one of the pachyderms attacked Snehalata, and crushed her to death on the spot.

Later, locals spotted the body and informed Forest officials. Bangriposi Ranger gave a compensation of Rs 40,000 to the family of the deceased. Another person of the locality, who sustained injuries while running away from the elephant herd, has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Forest Department will bear the expenses of the victim’s treatment, the Ranger said.
