Engineering student kills friend’s mom in Odisha. Here’s why

Jeypore: An engineering student has been arrested by Odisha police for allegedly killing his friend’s mother while he was committing loot in her house at Irrigation Colony here in Koraput district on October 17.

“Aditya Mohanty (19), the accused, has been arrested in connection with the case. After completing diploma course in engineering, he failed to get any job. While opening the almirah inside the woman’s house in a bid to loot cash, he was caught red handed by her following which he strangulated her to death,” a police official said.

According to reports, husband and son of Birajini Khandual (45), the deceased woman, had gone to Bhubaneswar on the fateful day.

With an intention of looting cash, Aditya, who was under stress after failing to secure job despite several attempts, entered inside the house while she was busy in cooking. However, he was caught by the woman while trying to open the almirah.

As she asked him to refrain from such act, he strangulated her to death on the spot.

“A case has been registered into the incident under Section 302 of IPC and the accused will be forwarded to court,” the police official said.
