Escaped undertrial prisoner caught from forest in Odisha

Malkangiri: An undertrial prisoner, who had escaped from Malkangiri sub-jail on March 5 night, was caught from a forest near MV-45 village this morning.

The jail authorities arrested the accused from the forest.

The Malkangiri police had initiated an operation to trace the prisoner following an FIR lodged by the jail superintendent under section 224 of IPC.

The prisoner Ajit Dakua had allegedly fled while the drain cleaning work was underway inside the jail.

The matter came to light after the jail authorities found the prisoner missing during regular checking at night.

According to reports, Dakua was lodged in the jail after he was arrested by the Balimela police on charges of illegal supply of ganja in January this year.
