Fake journalist sent to jail for assaulting cop in Odisha capital

This man went berserk and assaulted a policeman when asked to produce pertinent documents during frisking of vehicles on National Highway in Odisha capital yesterday night.

The errant identified as Manoranjan Pradhan was on his way towards Rasulgarh Square when his car was intercepted near Saptasati temple here. The traffic personnel asked him to show valid documents, including driving license and registration certificate, during the checking.

He allegedly identified himself as a journalist and tried to intimidate them. Despite that when the men in uniform insisted on the documents, he got infuriated and hurled abuses at them. An Assistant Sub Inspector standing few distance away intervened into the matter. However, Pradhan slapped the cop Sashikant Rout multiple times. He did not stop there. He snatched a lathi from a constable and thrashed Rout.

Following this, police control room and Mancheswar police were alerted which rushed to the spot. Pradhan working as a pharmacist at Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital was taken to Mancheswar police station where he was detained yesterday, police sources said.

Based on the complaint by Rout, he was arrested today and forwared to a local court.

Pradhan hailing from Chudamani under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district was booked under Section 341, 353, 332, 294 and 506 of IPC.
