Female hippo dies in Odisha’s Nandankanan zoo

A 15-year-old female hippopotamus was found dead in Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital today.

The body of the animal with several injury marks was found floating in a pool early this morning.

Though the reason behind the death of the hippo will be ascertained after post-mortem, it is suspected that a fight with a male hippopotamus might have led to her death.

With this, the number of hippopotamus in the zoo has reduced to 17.
