Former Odisha Chhatra Congress president, associate held under Arms Act

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police today arrested former Chhatra Congress President and the party’s Bhubaneswar North candidate Itish Pradhan and associate Prasannajit Malla under Arms Act and several other section of IPC. The duo was forwarded to the court today afternoon.

Police official sources said Pradhan and Malla were picked up by the cops while allegedly scheming to vandalize the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar in the backside of Ramadevi Women’s University. Seeing the police, other members of the duo managed to escape.

On December 9, some miscreants barged into the Congress Bhawan and vadalised it. They also torched important filed, documents and furniture. The miscreants also threatened the Congress party workers for life while brandishing swords and guns.

Based on a complaint filed by Pradesh Chhatra Congress President Yasir Nawaz, the Capital Police launched an investigation. The cops seized half-burnt documents and petrol bomb from the spot. As per the complainant, Pradhan and his associates ransacked the Congress Bhawan and damaged the property on its premises.

A party worker said few days back Pradhan along with a few party workers was suspended from the Congress party. He had been nurturing grudge against the State Congress leadership.

To carry out his plan, Pradhan and his associates had been scheming near Ramadevi Women’s University. On basis of a tip-off, the police raided and arrested Pradhan and Malla.
