Gangster Hyder’s associate taken on 7-day police remand

Cuttack: The Cuttack City Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court today allowed the Commissionerate Police to take Yakub Khan, one of the associates of gangster Sk Hyder on a seven-day remand.

Earlier in the day, the Commissionerate Police arrested Yakub for his alleged involvement in the escape of Hyder from the SCB Medical College and Hospital on April 10.

Worth mentioning, Yakub yesterday surrendered at the Chauliaganj Police Station.

Police sources said Yakub used to visit Hyder at the SCB hospital, where the latter was undergoing treatment under police custody.

Yakub used to bring food for Hyder at the hospital. When interrogated, Yakub said he was not aware of Hyder’s intention of escaping, the police sources added.

Hyder, who had been serving life term at the Sambalpur Circle Jail in a murder case, was admitted to the surgery department of SCB Hospital on March 23, 2021 for treatment. He was kept at cabin no. 5 of the surgery department under police custody.

However, the gangster managed to give a slip to the police on April 10 afternoon.
