Incessant rain floods Odisha capital, ednl institutions closed in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall triggered by a low pressure over Bay of Bengal has inundated many low lying areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Incessant rain since last evening has flooded Jayadev Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Bomikhal, VSS Nagar, Baramunda, Bayababa Lane, Shani Mandir Basti, Bhoi Nagar, Suka Vihar, Nua Sahi, Bali Tota Sahi, Behera Sahi, Damana, Nandan Vihar, Sailashree Vihar, Nigamananda Nagar, Jagannath Nagar, GGP Colony, Ashok Nagar, Salia Sahi and Rental Colony areas of the capital city.

Water also gushed into the houses of many denizens of the areas last night causing severe inconvenience for them. Transportation and commuting inside the city also got affected as knee-deep water was seen flowing over several roads here.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has activated helpline numbers– 18003450061, 0674-2432281– to receive complaints and extend assistance.

In view of the heavy downpour, Khordha Collector declared closure of all schools in the district for today. Similarly, all exams of the Utkal University have been postponed.

Similar situation was witnessed in many areas of Cuttack city. As many as 190 pump sets have been engaged by the Cuttack Municipality Corporation to drain out water from the low lying areas.

The Cuttack district administration also announced closure of all colleges and schools in the district for today.
