Inter-state criminal nabbed after encounter in Odisha

Odisha police today nabbed a most-wanted criminal following an encounter in Ganjam district.

According to reports, the antisocial identified as Deepak Mandal was injured in a police encounter near Bhairabi temple at Golanthara in the district. Besides, his aide Astam Mandal was also injured in the encounter.

Acting on specific inputs, police laid a trap and was waiting to nab him. However, he fired at police upon seeing them following which the cops retaliated. Mandal sustained bullet injuries on his legs.

Four pistols and bullets were seized from his possession, sources said.

Notably, at least 17-18 cases were pending at various police stations in Ganjam district. Besides, he was also wanted by Punjab and West Bengal police in several cases.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
