Jharkhand cop kills lover, surrenders before Odisha police

A constable posted at Bansjor police station in Simdega district in neighbouring Jharkhand surrendered before the local police here after allegedly killing a girl in Kapilas area near Biramitrapur in Odisha’s Rourkela late on Wednesday night, police sources said today.

The accused constable Jitendra Oram surrendered before the Biramitrapur police owning responsibility for the crime, sources said.

According to reports, the accused cop had a relationship with the victim. After going steady for a while, the girl asked him to get married. However, the non-commital lover turned down the proposal following the relationship between the couple turned sour.

On Wednesday, the accused reportedly called the victim to a secluded place here and allegedly killed the girl by slitting her throat. The blood-stained body with injury marks on the neck was found at Kapilas area near Biramitrapur on the outskirts of the Steel City.

The deceased was a resident of Kuladhipa village under Biramitrapur police station limits, sources said.

Prima facie, it appears that it is a murder over love affair. The accused constable is being detained at the police station and is being questioned. Besides, the family members of the deceased are also being questioned at the police station, police sources said.

Meanwhile, police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
