Jumbo tramples man to death in Odisha’s Athagarh

Athagarh, Oct 28:

A person was trampled to death by an elephant at Bali village under Khuntuni forest range here in Odisha’s Cuttack district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Gopal Sahu (62) of Balisasana village.

According to reports, Sahu came in front of a tusker while he had gone outside for refreshment in the morning. The pachyderm attacked and crushed him to death.

Following the incident, irate villagers staged a road blockade on NH-55 here demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased.

The roadblock was withdrawn after Athagarh DFO gave an assurance of Rs 3 lakh ex-gratia and a job to one of the family members of Sahu.

It may be recalled here that one Tikam Sahoo was killed in elephant attack at Baula village in Gurudijhatia area here yesterday.
