Kalinga Stadium’s renovated swimming pool opens for public

Bhubaneswar: Renovated swimming pool complex of Kalinga Stadium in Odisha capital was opened for public today.

Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera dedicated the swimming pool for public in the presence of concerned officials. The 10 lane-pool has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Designed on FINA standards, the 50mx25mx2m pool was completed in a record time of less than 5 months by Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO).

Besides the new pool, the construction of a FINA standard kids’ pool (25mx12mx2m) has also been taken up and will be completed soon, Sports Department sources said.

Notably, the pool was demolished to make room for a new gallery ahead of the hockey world cup in November. The decision to close the complex in September, last year had drawn criticism from swimmers and others who used the facility.
