Kharif paddy procurement in Odisha from Nov 15

The Odisha government today decided to launch Kharif paddy procurement in the state from November 15, announced Sanjay Das Burma Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare here.

The state government has issued directions for holding procurement committee meetings at the district level.

A meeting of farmer representatives and millers will be held here tomorrow wherein targets for paddy procurement will be fixed so that there is no distress sale of paddy like last year, said Das Burma briefing reporters here.

“Keeping in mind problems faced by farmers last year, the department has made adequate preparations that it is not repeated this year. My department has invited farmer representatives from all districts for discussion tomorrow to ensure that farmers get minimum support price for their paddy. During the daylong meeting, we will obtain inputs on paddy yield from them to fix procurement targets. We will also get inputs for better management of Paddy Procurement Automation System (P-PAS) used for direct transfer of payments to farmer accounts,” added Das Burma.
