Last Queen of Odisha’s Tigiria Estate Rasamanjari Devi passes away at 96

As the news spread,  a pall of gloom descended over Athagarh Assembly constituency in Cuttack. 

Bhubaneswar: Maharani Rasamanjari Devi, the last queen of Tigiria estate – one of the princely states of India during the British Raj and located in present-day Tigiria block of Odisha’s Cuttack district – passed away at her house due to old age-related ailments on Sunday. She was 96.

The wife of last king of Gadajat regime, late Brajaraj Birabar Kshatriya Champatisingh Mohapatra, Rasamanjari Devi had been elected from Athagarh Assembly Constituency after contesting on a Janata Dal party ticket and served as an MLA from 1977 to 1980.

As per reports, the queen’s last rites will be carried out at the royal crematorium today. People from various walks of life including State Animal Resources Development Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain were seen visiting her house to pay their last respects.
