Lawyers fume over CBI’s entry into Odisha HC judge’s res; demand judicial probe

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association has taken a serious note of the incident pertaining to CBI officials entering into the official residence of a sitting High Court judge.

The Association while demanding immediate suspension of the erring CBI officials has sought a judicial probe into the incident.

The Association at its extraordinary general body meeting decided to go on a cease work beginning today till 1.15 PM tomorrow. It will meet again tomorrow to decide on its future course of action.

“We demand judicial inquiry of the incident. We don’t have faith in either the State police or the central investigating agencies. We want that the matter be inquired into by a sitting judge either of the High Court or the Supreme Court,” stated Kali Prasad Mishra, vice president of the Orissa High Court Bar Association speaking to reporters after the meeting.

“The officers who had entered the sitting judge’s residence should be immediately suspended. Both departmental and criminal proceedings should be initiated against them immediately. Our cease work will continue till 1.15 PM tomorrow.  Our future course of action will be decided at tomorrow’s meeting,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Association has met the Chief Justice on this matter.

The All Odisha Lawyers’ Association has condemned the CBI’s act.

According to local sources, some men claiming to be CBI officials had tried to forcibly enter the Cantonment Road official residence of Orissa High Court sitting Judge Justice C R Dash at around 2 AM today.

Their entry was resisted by the security personnel on duty at Justice Dash’s residence. However, while they were trying to force their entry into the house, a Police Control Room (PCR) van which was passing through that area took them to the police station. But allegedly, police had released them after they had disclosed their identity.
