Locals set bus on fire in Odisha’s Balangir as girl dies in road mishap

Balangir: Tension erupted near Barhampur village under Patnagarh police limits in Odisha’s Balangir district today as locals set a bus on fire after it hit a motorcycle leading to the death of a girl.

According to reports, one Balaram Sa of Salepali village under Patnagarh block was returning home along with his daughter Ananya on a motorcycle around 10.30 am. In the meantime, a speeding bus hit the two-wheeler from rear injuring the two critically.

Locals rescued the father-daughter duo and admitted them to the Balangir district headquarters hospital, where Ananya succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.

The driver and conductor of the bus fled the spot after the accident, following which irate locals overturned the vehicle and torched it. On being informed, police reached the spot and initiated efforts to take the situation under control.
