Love birds marry on hospital premises in Odisha. Here’s why

Jajpur: Marriage solemnized in hospital! Yes you heard it right. A couple, who was in a relationship for a long time, got married at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jajpur Road in presence of police officials late last night.

The girl Pragnya Priyadarsini Samantaray, a resident of Patakura in Kendrapara district, was in love with one Saroj Kumar Jena of Kabirpur village under Sadar police limits in Jajpur district for a long time. Reportedly, the girl’s family had been opposing their relationship.

On Friday night, the girl ran away from her house and approached the youth, who works in a pharmacy store, to marry her. When he refused, the girl attempted suicide by consuming sedatives and lost consciousness. Later, locals and Jajpur Road police admitted her to the nearby hospital.

After the girl regained consciousness, the police intervened into the matter and asked the youth to marry her. Accordingly, the couple got married by exchanging garlands on the hospital premises.

“Her family members knew about our relationship. But her mother had been opposing it and had fixed her marriage with someone else. Lastly, she left her house last night and approached me to marry her,” said Saroj, the groom.

“I had fixed her marriage with another youth and the engagement was already done. I am not happy with this marriage. Now, I have no option than to accept them,” said the girl’s mother.
