Major fire at NALCO’s CPP in Odisha’s Angul
Nalconagar (Angul): A major fire broke out at the Captive Power Plant (CPP) of aluminium behemoth National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) today causing extensive damage.
According to reports, a major fire was reported at the 8th unit of the CPP at around 2 PM today.
Initially, the fire which broke out in the barrel outside the unit and later spread to the generator transformer and other areas causing extensive damage.
The generator transformer which has suffered extensive damage is valued at Rs 15 crore.
About 8-10 fire engines of NALCO’s own fire fighting service were pressed into service to tame the blaze.
The blaze has been brought under control at the time of filing of this report.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, said an official of NALCO adding that CPP’s 8th unit will only function after the damaged generator transformer is replaced.
