The deceased, identified as Binod Sharma of Mangalal Dafei Basti under Birmitrapur police station, was on the way to Jharkhand when a speeding truck (CG-04-J-5970) hit his bike from behind at China Town at Birmitrapur, killing him on the spot.

The incident took place at about 3 PM.

Tension ran high in the area after irate locals staged a road blockade demanding a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the truck owner of Chhattisgarh.

They also did not allow the local police to take the body of the deceased.

Following information, Birmitrapur IIC MR Deo rushed to the spot and pacified the locals who later withdrew the blockade in the late evening after the district administration handed over Rs 10000 assistance from the Red Cross to the kin of the deceased.

Vehicular traffic came to grinding halt for over four hours due to the blockade.

“The post mortem of the deceased would be conducted tomorrow. Efforts are on to trace out the absconding driver who fled with the vehicle soon after the mishap”, the IIC told OST.
