Molestation slur: Accused teacher to be produced before Odisha court

Commissionerate Police would produce the accused teacher before a local court in Odisha capital today who was arrested yesterday for allegedly outraging the modesty of a girl student.

The accused teacher– Binay Kumar Dash—posted as Chemistry teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 under Unit-9 area in the capital city was arrested by the Kharavel Nagar police yesterday.

The 54-year-old teacher was caught on camera while sexually exploiting the victim, a plus two student of the same school where the accused is posted.

As per sources, the girl used to go for tuitions to the teacher’s house and on some occasions, he also came over for classes at the former’s house. During the classes, the teacher used to allegedly sexually assault his student following which she complained it to her parents.

“The accused was giving private tuitions to the girl student in Kharavel Nagar area. The teacher had been misbehaving with the student for the last three months. The student had informed her parents about the incident. The parents initially did not believe her, but after their daughter stood by her version the parents decided to find out the truth and installed a CCTV camera in the study room,” said Kharavel Nagar police station, inspector-in-charge, Sanjiv Satpathy.

In order to gather evidence against him, the parents of the victim installed surveillance system at their house.

“On Thursday, when the teacher misbehaved with the girl, this was captured in the CCTV camera. The shocked parents then brought the video to the Kharavel Nagar police station,” added Satpathy.

Police after reviewing the video footage, registered a case and called the accused teacher to the police station. Binay initially refused the charges and claimed that it was an attempt to malign his reputation.

However, after police showed him the CCTV footage, he burst into tears and reportedly confessed to his crime.

He has been booked under Sections 354/354 (A), 354 (D) read with Sections 8/12 of POCSO Act.
