They were identified as Aarti Biswal and Raghukula Tilak Biswal, mother-in-law and husband of Neelam respectively. They were forwarded to the court, police said.

On Sunday, the Mahila police had detained Arati and her son Raghukula after they allegedly set  Neelam Biswal (30) on fire after pouring kerosene on her. The victim in her statement had said she was subjected to regular physical torture by her mother-in-law over demands for additional dowry.

A scientific team has started more investigation into the case.

Neelam, undergoing treatment at Kalinga Hospital with 30 per cent burn injuries, is stated to be out of danger.

According to Neelam’s brother Jyotirman Behera, her sister got married to Raghukula on January 20 last year. “Raghukula was projected as a bank employee before us, but he was not. My sister got cheated as he was a mentally-retarded person,” said Behera.

“During the marriage, Raghukula’s family had demanded Rs 5 lakh in cash and other expenditure which we had acceded to,” said Behera, adding, “Later her in-laws demanded a car and an AC which we failed to meet.”

After the first wedding anniversary, the son’s family had been pressurizing her to bring more dowry, Behera said.
