The Odisha Crime Branch, on the first day of its second phase grilling of self-styled godman Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra today, has come to know that the network of the head of Trahi Achyuta ashram had gone beyond India.

Sources in the Crime Branch have revealed that said the Baba has set up his ashram branches in Samastipur and Bhagalpur in Bihar, one each at Kolkata and Chobis Pargana in West Bengal and one in Nepal.

Apart from this, the Baba has also set up his ashram beside the National Highway about 10 km from Bolivali in Mumbai. The ashram, built on acres of land, was set up in 2004. A two-member Crime Branch team left for Mumbai today to collect first hand information about the ashram near Mumbai. The team would probe how the Baba could avail such a huge tract of land to set up the ashram and the source from which he had arranged the money to purchase the land.

The state investigating agency has also come to know that the two Biharis, who were recently arrested by Ptana police with assistance from the commissionerate police, had come to Jhiinti ashram through the Trahi Achyuta ashram in Samastipur and were staying at Achyuta Nagar.

The Crime Branch police are in touch with the local police in Samastipur to ascertain the details about Sura Baba’s ashram there and its connection with the two hardcore criminals. If necessary, the Crime Branch would visit the ashram branches outside Odisha, the sources added.

In the meanwhile, the Crime Branch sleuths, during their visit to Jhinti Trahi Achyuta ashram today, traced more than 300 land related documents from the office of the ashram Trust. Besides, they also found large amounts of gold and silver ornaments from a locker in Laxmi Mandir of the ashram.

The team collected photographs of the large pond and boating centre behind the Siva temple inside the ashram premises.

The second phase remand of Sura Baba and his two sons—Biranchi and Trilochan—would end on Monday.
