Murder of businessman’s son in Jharsuguda: Accused tries to kill self during police remand

Jharsuguda: Amit Sharma, one of the accused in the abduction and murder of a businessman’s minor son in Odisha’s Jharsuguda, today tried to kill himself at the Reserve Battalion’s bathroom here during his remand period.

According to reports, Amit had gone to the bathroom this morning, during which he shattered the mirror. He then slit his wrist and throat with a piece of glass of the broken mirror.

He was rescued by cops and admitted to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital here for treatment.

Amit and Dinesh Agrawal, another accused of the murder case, were later produced before a local court.

Police had taken the duo on a three-day remand for questioning.

Samarth Agrawal, the 15-year-old son of businessman Sunit Agrawal of Sarbahal area in Jharsuguda, was allegedly kidnapped and killed over a ransom of Rs 50 lakh on March 28.

His body was recovered from Bheden area of Bargarh district.

According to sources, some miscreants had allegedly abducted Samarth from Jharsuguda during the evening hours of March 27 and sought a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from his father. They killed the boy in the night hours of March 28 after the victim’s family did not pay the ransom.

Investigating into the case, police had apprehended Amit Kumar Sharma of Biju Nagar in Jharsuguda and Dinesh Agrawal of Gandhi Chhak area in Brajarajnagar.
