Newborn theft at Sambalpur hosp in Odisha: Incident captured on CCTV

The incident of newborn boy theft at Sambalpur Sadar Hospital in Odisha today has been captured on CCTV camera installed at the hospital.

Police have started investigation into the incident examining the CCTV footage.

According to reports, Gitanjali Majhi of Amlapalli village under Jujumura police limits in the district had given birth to a baby boy at the hospital yesterday.

On the wee hours today, an unidentified woman came to Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward where Gitanjali was admitted.

Moments later, Gitanjali found her baby missing.

“At around 3 AM, an unknown woman came into the ward and asked me to carry the baby on her lap to which I refused, following which she left the place,” the grandmother of the baby said.

The family members of the baby have alleged that the unidentified woman took the newborn with her while the infant was sleeping beside his mother.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at Sambalpur Town police station.

Meanwhile, Sambalpur CDMO Kodandadhara Rao has accepted the newborn theft incident.
