Odisha Congress holds ‘Sankirtan Satyagrah’ for opening of all four gates of Puri Srimandir

Bhubaneswar: The state unit of Congress organised ‘Sankirtan Satyagrah’ in front of Jagannath temples across Odisha for the opening of all four gates of Srimandir in Puri.

Offering Diya, playing cymbals and mridangam, the Congress leaders staged protests over various demands including the opening of four gates of the Jagannath Temple in Puri for devotees during the auspicious Kartik month, opening and repair work of Ratna Bhandar and the return of land belonging to common people acquired by the Vedanta for a project in Puri.

The protest was held in front of all Jagannath temples in blocks, NACs and districts from 9 am to 12 noon.

In Bhubaneswar, the district Congress held the Sankirtan Satyagrah in front of the Congress Bhawan by placing Chaturdhamurti at roadside as the party did not receive permission from the Commissionerate Police due to enforcement of section 144 near a Jagannath temple behind the Lok Sewa Bhawan.

On October 16, the Congress had demonstrated in Puri for opening of four gates of Srimandir. The party had handed over a memorandum to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in this regard giving Oct 28 as ultimatum to meet its demands.

The party protested today in a unique way as the state government did not meet the deadline.
