Odisha court extends remand of Dhal Samant brothers by five days

A local court in Odisha today extended the remand of Dhal Samant brothers by five more days after their seven-day remand expired today.

Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court allowed the Commissionerate police to take Sushil and Sushant Dhal Samant on a five-day remand for further interrogation.

The duo was produced before the court today morning by the Commissionerate police after their seven-day remand period ended today.

The investigating officers prayed the court to take the duo on a 10-day further remand. However, the court allowed the cops to take them on five days’ remand.

The public prosecutor (PP), representing the Commissionerate police, stated that Dhal Samant brothers are “not cooperating” in the investigation for which they need extension of remand, sources said.

The court has directed the authorities to produce the duo before it on February 13.

It may be recalled that Choudwar police had arrested the Dhal Samant brothers from a rented house in Pokhariput area in the capital city on January 29. Following their arrest, they were produced before the SDJM court late in the night and forwarded to Choudwar Circle Jail.

Since the duo’s arrest, police conducted raids at various locations including their residence at CDA Sector 6 where police seized huge dump of arms and ammunition, cash, laptop, mobile phones, diaries and other documents.

This apart, a team of Commissionerate police along with Andhra Pradesh police had also raided their residence at Visakhapatnam where the investigating team seized several documents, fire arms and ammunition, fake identity proofs, CDs and computer hard disk said to be containing vital information.
