Odisha ex-servicemen demand fair chance in reemployment

Odisha Sun Times Bureau:
Bhubaneswar, Jan 12:

Defence personnel should be preferred over civilians in all establishments post retirement as reemployment has become a constraint owing to state and Central government’s apathy, Major General (Retd) RN Radhakrishnan said on Sunday during a family get-together of retired defence personnel organised by Air Force Association of Odisha.

“As reemployment of ex-servicemen has become a constraint and they are being neglected by both state and Central governments in giving them the second job assurance, I have recommended to the 7th Pay Commission that all establishments like ordnance factories, armament depots, CSD etc. must be replaced with ex-servicemen and staffed with civilians,” Radhakrishnan said.

Notably, Radhakrishnan is one of the nominated members on behalf of Indian Ex-Services League to the 7th Central Pay Commission committee. Besides, he is also president of Tamil Nadu Ex-Services League and nominated vice president of Indian Ex-Services League, New Delhi.

In defence services, the retirement age must be at par with the civilian counterparts as they get discharged of their duties at the age of 35-40 as a result of which they run for a job to secure their family’s nneds. However, they rarely get accommodated in a recruitment process with a pronounced bias for freshers and suffer a lot because of this. To avoid such post retirement difficulties, Radhakrishnan laid emphasis on the retirement age to be hiked to at least 62 from the present 35 to 40.

General Secretary, Indian Ex-Services League Odisha Branch, Veteran, Petty Officer Radio (Spl), Bidyadhar Nayak urged the defence veterans to participate in active politics and contribute their best talents for the state and nation building and to be whistleblowers to expose corruption in the state.

Among others president, Air Force Association Odisha unit Gp Capt Jagadananda Brahma (Retd), AFA Odisha Secretary, Junior Warrant Officer, Arun Mohanty (Retd) were present on the occasion.
