Odisha family attacked with acid over chicken theft; 4 injured

Balangir: At least four persons of a family were injured after being attacked with acid by neighbouring family allegedly over theft of a chicken at Bangomunda area here in the district.

The injured persons were Subash Sahu, Khageswar Sahu, Sanju Sahu and Jagabandhu Sahu. They were admitted to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, two families were residing at Sahupada near Bangomunda School in Balangir district. Two days ago, a chicken belonging to one family went missing following which two families indulged into heated argument on Friday. The situation turned violent with attack on each other by women in both the families. The male persons in the families also faced off with each other over the chicken theft issue.

The dispute further escalated with Tulasi and his son Nepal hurling acid, which was meant for use in making of gold jewelries, on Jagabandhu’s family resulting in injuries to four members.

On receiving information, Bangomunda police rushed to the spot. In attempt to resolve the matter between two neighbouring families, a little acid reportedly fell on the shirt of the police station IIC. The injured persons were taken to the Kantabanji CHC from where they were shifted to the Balangir Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital.

Based on written complaint by Jagabandhu Sahu, police have arrested Nepal Sahu and his father Tulasi Sahu. They were forwarded to a local court following medical examination.
