Odisha govt okays appointment of 938 doctors, highest at one go

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to address the shortage of doctors and improve healthcare services in the State, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved the appointment of 938 MBBS doctors.

This is the highest appointment of doctors at one go in the State.

These doctors will be recruited by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) as Assistant Surgeons and will be posted at various hospitals across the state, said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

With the fresh appointments, the number doctors in the government sector have gone up to 5707 against the sanctioned strength of 6719.

The move has reduced the percentage of vacancies in the State from 29% to 15%, official sources said.
