Cuttack, Mar 26:

The Odisha High Court today dismissed the Khandapada election irregularities case on the grounds of insufficient facts for adjudication.

The court had completed its hearing in the matter on February 27 and had kept its verdict reserved for today.

President of Ama Odisha Party Soumya Ranjan Patnaik had filed a case in the High Court alleging large-scale irregularities committed in the 2014 elections to the Khandapada Assembly seat and had sought declaration of the election null and void.

Patnaik had lost to Anubhav Patnaik of the BJD by less than 600 votes.

Reacting to the court’s verdict, the Ama Odisha Party chief said: “There are several instances of Supreme Court admitting similar cases for adjudication; I don’t know why the court did not consider my case. But don’t I have the right to question? Whether I will question or not will depend after I go through the judgment”.

On the other hand, Khandapada MLA Anubhav Patnaik said: “Allegations made by them were totally baseless, untrue and without any proof. So we had prayed to the court seeking its dismissal. On being satisfied with our arguments, the court dismissed the case.”
