Odisha: IIT-Bhubaneswar, NIT-Rourkela among top 50 universities in India

Bhubaneswar: Indian Institute of Technology-Bhubaneswar (IITBBS) and National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Rourkela from Odisha have found place among the top 50 in the first-ever standalone prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings for Indian institutions of higher education.

IIT-Bhubaneswar bagged 21st rank, and NIT-Rourkela secured 27th position in the QS ranking out earlier in the day.

The two top institutes in the State have received full marks in ‘Staff with PhD’ category which implies the extent to which institutions employ qualified faculty members.

KIIT University, another higher academic institution from the State, comes within the bracket of 61-65 and has been ranked 75th.  After 50th spot, institutions are ranked in ranges of five spots.

IIT Bombay has emerged as the topmost institute of the country, while Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is placed in the second position among Indian institutes.

Seven IITs are there in the top 10 positions among which University of Hyderabad and University of Delhi are in 7th and 8th position, respectively.

QS, the global higher education think tank responsible for the world’s most-consulted world university rankings, used several parameters such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international faculty and papers per faculty among others.
