Odisha lawyers to boycott court tomorrow

Lawyers in Odisha will go for a statewide boycott of courts tomorrow to express their solidarity with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh in condemning the gunning down of an advocate allegedly by a policeman in a court in Allahabad.

High-CourtWhile condemning the incident, the Odisha Bar Council today called for a statewide boycott of courts by lawyers of all bars tomorrow.

Responding to the call, Odisha High Court Bar Association and All Odisha Lawyers’ Association passed separate resolutions calling upon the lawyers of the state to join tomorrow’s protests.

“The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court has been informed of our decision to boycott courts and accordingly we have urged all the bars of the state to join in the protest,” said Bidyadhar Pradhan secretary Odisha High Court Bar Association.

The Association decided to submit a memorandum to the President through the respective district collectors tomorrow.

The Association’s state committee has written a letter to the UP chief minister for granting an ex- gratia of Rs one crore to the family of the deceased advocate.

A 30-year old advocate Nabi Ahmed was allegedly shot dead by a sub inspector Shailendra Singh in the Allahabad district court premises yesterday. A case of murder has been registered against him.
